We had a pasta dinner at Paradise Lutheran Church Saturday night February 1st, 2020 to raise funds for our Belize mission.
Southern Belize is our current focus. We run three trips a year to remote Mayan villages and schools. The twice yearly school trips are designed to provide basic care to hundreds of school children and to screen all students for possible medical issues. The schools are located at Maya Centre, San Pablo, and Sittee River.
We also run a full clinic twice a year at San Pablo, a small village 9 miles down a dirt road from the main paved highway. In addition to medical care, we provide toothbrushes (and dental instruction) and eyeglasses. We are very pleased that in the few years we have visited San Pablo we have seen a marked increase in the level of health and wellness among the residents.
Our missions to Belize provide screening and care to students, teachers, parents, and villagers alike. Two teams will work to accomplish this goal in 2017.
September 23rd – October 1st, 2017
Our first team will visit Maya Centre, a Roman Catholic School of approximately 280 students from preschool to standard six. All of the children learn English in school, but they are more fluent in their native Mopan Mayan. At Maya Centre we also serve the children of migrant workers from Guatemala living in the local citrus workers’ camps. The Maya Centre school has a small clinic on the property, but most of our clinic will be outdoors under a tarp.
